Our systematic phonics programme helps children build strong foundations in reading, writing and spelling. Instead of memorising words by sight alone, children learn the sounds of letters and letter combinations through fun, multisensory activities. At Treehouse, we tailor Jolly Phonics to suit young learners in an engaging, supportive and joyful environment. We ensure children develop clear, natural pronunciation and a native-level accent through professional guidance. By the end of the programme, your child will have developed skills to help with reading and writing!

Course Information

What is Phonics?

Phonics is a system of relationships between letters and sounds in a language. It is vital that students remember the sound of each letter so that they can blend them to pronounce words. By mastering phonics, children learn to decode unfamiliar words independently rather than relying on memorisation. This foundational skill transforms reading from a challenging task into an achievable and enjoyable process. Strong phonics knowledge also supports accurate spelling, as children learn to segment words into individual sounds. At Treehouse, our native English teachers integrate phonics into every lesson, helping young learners build reading fluency, clear pronunciation, and the confidence to explore English stories on their own.

FAQs

Find answers about our courses levels, class placement, free evaluation, and how our courses build confident English learners.
What age is suitable for starting phonics at Treehouse?
Children as young as 3 years old can begin with our Level 1: Early Explorers, focusing on letter recognition and basic sounds.
How long does it take to complete all 5 phonics levels?
It takes 113 weeks to finish the whole entire course or 5 levels, that’s approx 28+ months.
My child struggles with blending sounds. Can phonics help?
Yes. Our Level 2: Blending Masters is specifically designed to help children practise blending letter sounds smoothly to form whole words.
Do you offer a free assessment to determine my child's phonics level?
Absolutely. We provide a free evaluation with a native English teacher to place your child in the correct phonics level.
Will phonics help my child with school reading and spelling?
Yes. Strong phonics skills improve both reading fluency and spelling accuracy, giving your child a solid foundation for school success.
My child already knows the ABC song. Isn't that enough to start reading?
Knowing letter names (like "Bee" or "See") is great, but knowing letter sounds (like /b/ or /k/) is what actually unlocks reading! Jolly Phonics teaches children the specific sounds letters and letter combinations make, giving them a clear code to decode unfamiliar words smoothly on their own.
What does "multisensory learning" mean, and why is it effective?
Children learn best when they use more than one sense! In our classes, every sound is paired with a fun action, a short story, and a catchy song. By seeing the letter, hearing the sound, doing the action, and writing it in the air, multi-sensory learning helps concepts stick—especially for active young learners.
How does Jolly Phonics help with spelling and writing, not just reading?
While reading involves blending sounds together, writing involves segmenting—listening to a word and identifying each individual sound inside it. Jolly Phonics teaches both skills simultaneously, helping children spell words phonetically and gain the confidence to write their own sentences early on.
